Scott Dorman & The Big Lonesome
Bio

The Big Lonesome is...

Scott Dorman (guitar & vocals) was raised in the middle of a corn field in Iowa (except for every other year, in which case he was raised in the middle of a soybean field). He's played across the country with numerous bands, as a solo musician, and with his own band - Nashville based, The Big Lonesome. He's written and recorded hundreds of songs and several award-winning commercials over a 16 year music and production career. You can check out Scott's production work HERE and HERE

Will Mandell (bass & vocals) is a Toledo, Ohio native and a huge fan of the "always given the benefit of the doubt in the polls" Ohio State University Buckeyes football team. He has played bass for country music legend Tanya Tucker, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Chris Knight, new Sony artist Shelly Fairchild, and many many more. He also purchases Verizon's largest consumer-grade cell phone plan. To get any more minutes he'd have to be a government employee or a spy or a tour manager for some big-time country star or something.

Steve Emahiser (drums) is from Santa Barbara, CA and has been a member of the BL for over 10 years. He has toured with country stars Trent Willmon, Michael Peterson Canadian star Chris Cummings and others. He also drums for the incredible jazz group The Rigby-Bowland Project. Steve is constantly refining his drumming - and by that we obviously mean working to incorporate more cowbell into his performances. He has found that there is nothing more effective at driving audiences into a frenzy than the incessant pounding of a cowbell.

Equipment Notes

Scott uses and endorses the VoiceBox 8600 Series from Larynx, Inc. The surgical implantation was performed in December of 2003 by the professional (and ASE Certified) technicians at the Larynx, Inc. worldwide headquarters in Boca Raton, FL. As his endorsement on the Larynx.com web site says...

"I was, of course, skeptical when I had my God-given voicebox removed and the 7600 series implanted in August of '02, but I really grew to appreciate the beautiful tones I could achieve with the new implant. Singing was effortless, from low, throaty, bluesy growls to bell-like tenor tones. But this new 8600 Series model is really impressive. It's even smoother than the 7600 and I love the sophisticated vocal timbre it gives, but the real advantage is the new No-Gag on/off switch. That combined with the new Dephlegminator option and the Antaries 4.5 Physio-Autotune (which I highly recommend) takes me within a hair's width of vocalist nirvana - and my voice doesn't sound bionic at all! The other cool thing is that you can upgrade the software via USB from any computer - or if I'm on the road via Bluetooth from any web-enabled cell phone. I'm so glad Josh Groban told me about it."

Since late 2007 Scott has been playing a Martin OOO-16RGT acoustic guitar with an LR Baggs M1 Active Pickup installed and plugged into the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI. He's currently using no effects on the acoustic. The tuner he's using on acoustic shows is a Peterson Strobostomp. His Martin is strung with Martin SP Phosphor Bronze Strings (Light gauge). His plectra of choice are Dunlop Ultex Picks. He showers with Lever 2000 soap. When playing electric, Scott relies on either a 2006 sunburst Fender 72 Reissue Thinline Telecaster or a 1976 sunburst American Fender Stratocaster through one or more of these amps: a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue, an early 80's Roland Jazz Chorus 120 loaded with two 12" ceramic magnet Weber California Speakers, or a Roland Blues Cube 60 with an Eminence Wizard speaker. Strings are GHS Boomers. He eats Tennessee Pride Mild Sausage for breakfast. He uses a Keeley Compressor, Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, an original puke-green Nobels ODR-1, a Paul Cochrane Timmy overdrive, a Mojo Hand Analogue Filter, a Line 6 MM4 Modulation pedal, and a Boss DD-20 TwinPedal Delay. Pedalboard is a Pedaltrain. Scott's cats' litterbox is filled with TidyCats Multi-cat Formula Litter. Power is supplied with Visual Sound's 1 Spot power supply. Tuner is a Boss TU-2. Scott's vocal mic is an Audix OM6, a Shure Beta 87A, or a Shure SM58. He connects these gizmos with a dizzying array of MONSTER CABLES, George L's Cables, Twist Ties from Nature's Own 100% Wheat Bread wrappers,Vel-cro, and IceBreakers Bubble Gum Flavored Gum.
